Artist Statement I enjoy painting with acrylic on canvas as well as creating etchings on paper. Both mediums allow me to develop rich, layered compositions. My technique for painting involves building up areas of texture through the application of layers of gesso & paint. My etchings are developed using several techniques on one plate; such as pressing linear textures into soft ground, drawing into hard ground, and aquatinting. I usually work on several pieces concurrently and the process is most often spontaneous in order to achieve a fluid and organic final product. My work addresses themes related to time, space, energy and nature. I
am inspired by the words of Walt Whitman as well as “String Theory." Many
physicists now believe that strings -- miniscule multidimensional vibrating
strands of energy thought to make up all matter -- hold the key to uniting
the world of the very large and the very small in a single theory sought
by Einstein and countless others. Creating art allows me to step out
of the real world’s boundaries. |
